ADVANTAGES OF UNDERFLOOR HEATING - Reduced Operating Costs: Underfloor heating operates at lower temperatures, optimising the efficiency of heat pump systems - Even Heat Distribution: correctly laid in a snail shell design it provides uniform heating across the floor, eliminating hot and cold spots in a room. - Aesthetics: Underfloor heating eliminates the need for visible radiators, offering more design flexibility and wall space. - Comfort: Radiant heat from the floor creates a more comfortable living environment compared to traditional heating methods - Radiant heat from the floor is ideal for tall spaces as only the occupied area is heated - Affordable: In new builds UFH can be installed for very little additional cost. - There are many different types of UFH so a solution can be found for most rooms - Choice of floor coverings: Can be used with ceramic; stone; solid and engineered wood; carpets and rugs as long as the flooring type is factored in to the design process - UFH can be used for cooling
DISADVANTAGES OF UNDERFLOOR HEATING - Complex Retrofitting: Retrofitting underfloor heating in existing properties may be challenging so a knowledgeable installer is needed - Response Time: Underfloor heating systems have slower response times compared to traditional radiators, making quick adjustments challenging. Once you understand how it is controlled, this can be avoided. - Compatibility Issues: It may not be suitable for all rooms or upper floors in some retrofit cases. - Maintenance Challenges: If not installed correctly, maintenance and repairs can be complicated
Can the underfloorheating leak?
It’s really unlikely that a warm water underfloor heating system will leak! The pipework is strong and durable making it hard to damage during the installation. Your system will also be filled with water and pressure tested before being buried in the floor, or having floor coverings fitted, for complete peace of mind.
What heating systemcan I use?
Underfloor heating will work with your existing boiler, but will work much more efficiently with a heat pump.
Can I use underfloor heatingand radiators together?
Underfloor heating can replace radiators entirely and we’d recommend this for new build homes. UFH can also work alongside radiators, so you could have underfloor heating downstairs and radiators upstairs.
How long does underfloorheating take to heat up?
Retrofit underfloor heating systems can heat up quickly because the heating pipework is very close to the floor surface. Newbuild systems that are set within screed will take longer to heat initially, at the start of winter, but they retain their heat for longer. Once up and running, this type of system will react quickly to keep your home warm.
