How does it work? A barrier to switching to a heat pump can be the upfront cost of purchase and installation. So the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) aims to substantially reduce that cost for you. As heat pumps are around 4x more efficient than your current boiler they should reduce your energy bills and save carbon at the same time. - Launched in April 2022 to encourage the installation of low-carbon heating technologies, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme is a government incentive administered by Ofgem, running until 2028. - From October 23rd 2023, the grant funding increased from £5,000 to £7,500 making eco-friendly heat pumps more accessible to all. Any remaining costs towards the installation are paid by the client. - The property needs an EPC which confirms that the loft and cavity walls are properly insulated Steps to making the switch from fossil fuels with Orangehouse Renewables: 1) Contact us for advice and your free survey 2) Insulate your home - The BUS scheme requires a valid Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) with no outstanding recommendations for upgrading loft or cavity wall insulation. These are the only two improvements mandated by the grant scheme. Heat pumps are designed to keep your home at a steady temperature, so it’s vital to insulate your home to get the most efficient results and to access the grant. 3) We are an MCS-certified installer so can apply for the grant on your behalf for no extra charge as this is included in our quote. 4) Use the right heat pump – we will calculate the heat loss in your property to size the system, taking into account the local climate; system efficiency; warranty and manufacturer support; aesthetic considerations and sympathetic positioning for your garden and heat pump performance. Our heat pumps are really quiet so noise and disturbance is effectively managed and minimal. 5) Once a contract has been signed and a deposit paid, we will apply for the grant voucher. Vouchers are valid for 3 months. 6) Schedule your installation - Once your grant is confirmed, we will take care of your heat pump installation from start to finish. We’ll connect up the electrical wiring, the piping and finally test and commission the entire system. 7) Enjoy around 400% heating efficiency (compared to 90% for a traditional boiler) - Once the installation is complete, we’ll set up and programme your system to ensure you’re receiving the maximum efficiency from your new low-carbon heating system. 8) We offer annual servicing to help your heat pump maintain optimum efficiency, prolong it’s life and to preserve manufacturer warranties.
