GROUND SOURCE HEAT PUMPS

• Ground source heat pumps collect heat from the ground outside your home and use it to provide space and water heating
• More efficient than air source as the ground has a constant year-round temperature
• Modern ground source heat pumps are around 600% efficient and have up to 75oC flow temperatures
• Qualify for the government BUS grant and other tax benefits
• Heat is collected from either horizontal trenches in the ground or from a ‘probe’ inserted into a vertical borehole
• Ground collectors work like a rechargeable battery with ground conditions the wetter the better!

WATER SOURCE HEAT PUMPS

• Use a water source to provide 100% of a property's heating and hot water and cooling.
• Even more efficient than ground source!
• Require a body of water such as a pond, river, stream, lake, quarry pit or other options if there is sufficient flow
• Generally less expensive than ground source due to reduced ground works costs
• Heat collector is submerged, so hidden from sight and generally qualify for permitted development rights
• Qualify for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) and other tax benefits

HEAT PUMP SERVICING

Heat pumps are complex systems which need annual maintenance to ensure long lasting efficient performance. Getting an installation from Orangehouse Renewables is normally the start of a long-term relationship.

It is a condition of the Boiler Upgrade Scheme and manufacturer warranties that air source, water source and ground source heat pump systems are serviced annually (a bit like getting your car MOT and service). We undertake services to make sure everything is clean and working properly, to try to identify problems before they occur and to help keep your system running with maximum efficiency.

MECHANICAL VENTILATION WITH HEAT RECOVERY

• Mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR) is a whole-house ventilation system that ensures indoor air is like being outside but is warm!
• Damp, stale air, odours and pollutants are vented outside and fresh air is brought in from outside
• Heat exchangers recover heat from the outgoing stale air to warm the fresh incoming air.
• Building Regulations demand energy efficient buildings with high levels of insulation and air tightness. This requires significant investment and effort so having trickle vents or other “holes” letting in cold air is ridiculous.
• A well-designed and installed MVHR system silently provides clean, fresh air, reduces heat loss and improves energy efficiency.

UNDERFLOOR HEATING

• Underfloor heating (UFH) is a great partner to heat pumps; the lower the temperature the heat pump operates at the more efficient it is and the less it costs to run
• There are many different UFH systems so there is usually a solution for most rooms
• Underfloor heating can be used throughout your property; upstairs or downstairs; or in one single room.
